Please help, after looking at countless websites i have been unable to find any history on the old gate house at the top of Barrymore Way and Raby Hall Road; plus the Coach/Stable houses in a courtyard at the bottom of Aldford Close!!! This need to know has been fired up by talking to an elderly neighbour of my parents who sadly passed away a few months ago. My parents live in Barrymore Way and had been told by the neighbour that there is a presevation order on the old sand stone wall between the two properties, this wall then continues across the road between the two properties opposite. There was clearly some truth in this as the house numbers jump from 35 to 39 as the original house builders had been stopped from building on another plot due to the wall (What would have been plot No.37)!!! I remember as a child the remains of a large house which i believe had been used as a Barnados home for orphans, this was situated behind the properties on Barrymore Way and could be accesed from Dibbinsdale Road where yet again an old sand stone wall still remains! I would love to know more history about this sight and would be gratefulof information, if known, or direction!!!
