I have some rellies who were living at Mill Road, Woodslee Lodge, Bromborough in 1881. Can anyone help me by explaining exactly where this address was? Best regards
Hi woodslee lodge is in the dibbinsdale nature reserve at the end of mill lane, there is a bit of information on the net for dibbinsdale,i will try and send some links for info when i get time,Andy
I look forward to seeing what you can find, nestonlad.
I've found Mill Road, Woodslee Primary School and Brotherton Park but I wonder where Woodslee Lodge was. In 1881 Woodslee Lodge was the next place on the census, to Woodslee where the steamship owner David McIver was living with his family and many servants so I suppose The Lodge was just that--the gatehouse to his estate. Does his mansion still exist? I suppose Brotherton Park was his estate.
Incidentally, I can't find the Old Chester Road (as mentioned in the 1881 census)--am I right in thinking it's now called Spital Road (B5137)?
Sorry to be a bother but from the other side of the world, it's difficult for me. Best regards
old chester road still exists its runs alongside new chester road(A41) in birkenhead and through bromborough and eastham.Mill road runs between new chester road and spital road and dibbinsdale nature reserve (woodslee) is on spital road.Woodslee house no longer exists but there are some pictures of it on the dibbinsdale spring 2009 newsletter but i think the lodge still exists,i work around the corner from dibbinsdale so if i get a chance i will nip out one dinnertime for a photo for you
