Hi there, my nan Agnes Hodkinson born 1931 in Liverpool, was evacuated as a child from Liverpool, but never told me where she was evacuated to- can anybody help?
Some evacues were placed in parkgate there was a story about a man who was evacuated there on the aboutmyarea website i will try and provide a link to it if i can find it later
A lot of people were sent to Wales, my partners nan was evacuated from Wirral and spent several years on a farm in Ruthin, Wales. She was very well treated and the family even wanted to adopt her at the end of the war.
Some Liverpool evacuees were housed in farmhouses on the green in Frankby. Also the Liverpool Seaman's Mission children were relocated to huts built in the big field at what is now Royden Park during the Second World War.
I don't know whether your Nan would have been one of them, Jojo.
Some children from Birkenhead and Wallasey were evacuated to Shropshire in 1941 to avoid the bombings. I have been researching my family history and discovered a relative who was only nine in 1941 was evacuated to ellesmere in shropshire and unfortunately drowned in an accident.
There were plans to evacuate a lot ofchildren tocanada but in the early days one of the ships the city of benaries was sunk with the loss ofa lot of children so this idea was scrapped.
Hi folks North Wales seemed to be a favorite for the kids many went onto farms, some even returning after the war. I too do family history research and have come across a few stories from others about their times in Wales. Regards Jess
