Place names

I am currently working on a fiction novel concerning the link between Birkenhead Park and Central Park in New York City. The story travels back in time and I want to use place names of actual villages on the Wirral from medieval times. Can anyone suggest a publication / web site where I can trace current village names back to what they would have been?

Theres a book thats available that might help (i've attached a link) but its a bit pricey,i would suggest you try and get your library to get hold of a copy for you or do a quick check on ebay.Good look with your own book it sounds very interesting

Yes also the cover of David Randalls book "The search for old Wirral" contains a very old map, or the History of Wirral by Stephen J Roberts contains several maps throughout the growing stages of Wirrals time line. They would all be of use to you im sure.

Thank you for that Motorman I was not aware of the bumps. I have mentioned the spitfire which crashed into the park and was recovered some years later.

Cheers,

Bruce
