Ladies in waiting to the Bromborough May Queen

.JPGKnockalo May Qeen.JPGI wonder if anyone recognises themselves in this pic. Taken in the 1940s. We had a tremendous day. I am the girl on the second row from the front with Iris on my left and lily on my right. The girl at the back on the right was Pam I think. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who recognises these girls. We all attended Woodslee school

Hi Ruby,
My grandad and dad lived at the top of bull hill in little neston. My dad was born there just after the second world war.I don't know wether you remember much from when you lived there, the princes used to run the post office and i think the dairy shop may have been there next door to the royal oak.I've attached a couple of photos that may jog your memory

My Husband and i moved to little neston in 1954 into one of Benbows houses on Bendee Avenue. I remember the cottage hospital. We got ourselves a ginger kitten from one of the cottages nearby. My kids went to Ness Holt school and Burton Rd School in the 1950s early 60s before we went to live in Australia in 1965. I was born and brought up in Bromborough and my Husband was an Eastham lad. Do you remember lilla at the sweet shop?

My Grandad did some work for Benbow as he was a joiner/carpenter so he may have worked on your house on Bendee avenue,i know he worked on the houses that are built on the old farm behind the post office in little neston. My Grandad isn't around anymore but Benbow is.I don't remember lilla at the sweet shop,i was born in 1966.Its funny you saying about what you find out when you go into your family tree,my grandad was brought up in the conwy valley and couldn't speak english till he was 14 but when i started doing my family tree i found out he was actually born in liverpool but when my g grandads business failed they moved back to the area the family were from

Benbows were very nice people. I used to go into their workshop and ask for wood offcuts for the kids to play with as blocks. They always found a few for me and smoothed them off so there were no splinters. My Husband was in the same class at the Wirral Grammar school as the youngest Benbow. Fancy that about your Grandad only speaking Welsh. My Husband is-was of Welsh descent and his Great Grandparents were only Welsh speaking. I haven't been active on the forum for a while. Too much to do for christmas! I have 7 kids and their families. They are all coming to me for Christmas dinner! Even though our Christmas is in the Summer and usually very hot we still have the traditional hot meal and Christmas pud!
