I live abroad, but have been tasked to clear a house in Scarborough following someone's death. During that process, I've found a very intresting document from an auction which took place in 1932. In a nutshell, it's the A4 auction folio of Frankby Hall and it's contents, but possibly more interesting are the farmsteads which were also included in the sale.
There are maps of the immediate estate for the hall, and also the surrounding farms. It includes photographs of the properties which were sold at the auction, presumably many of which will still be standing.
The lady who attended the auction (Trudy Wilson of Redreef, Baytree Road, Frankby) made copious pencil notes throughout the folio as to who purchased a property, and also the auction price.
The house I'm clearing has several items from the sale of goods, and it has been interesting to see what they originally sold for.
I am in the UK for only a short time but am at a loss to know what to do with this item. It cannot simply be thrown away, even though I don't feel it has any monetary value.
It must surely be a valuable record of the area and it's properties from 1932. I would imagine it would be of great interest to those currently living in the properties within the folio
.
To give you a flavour: Shop, House and Garden, Greasby Road, Greasby, sale price 250.00 to a Mrs Dodds or Rock House, Montgomery Hill, Frankby 350.00 etc etc. Just a couple of the many included, with photographs.
I'm afraid my photos have transferred in an odd manner, but hopefully you will get an idea of what's inside the folio - one of the maps/plans is particularly large, too large to show here.
I'm hoping someone is monitoring this website who could maybe furnish me with an address of an organisation or local museum who may be interested in it. It should be available for public view I believe. I return home on Monday 18th and it would be good to get the item in the post before leaving.
