Paxman and The Mersey

I recently watched a tv programme on The Mersey with front man Jeremy Paxman (who in my view should not be on tv) however, the programme was fairly informative until he reached the river above the ship canal. His researchers had obviously not been doing homework, or he was just plain ignorant.

Not a mention of the west side of the river except for a 30 second slot, at the end, on New Brighton and The Fort. But he alleges that the river runs THROUGH Liverpool, thereby counting Birkenhead and Wallasey as parts of the 'dark side'.

Many people from Bhead and Wallasey took offence and commented of this remark via social media. In my post I mentioned the FACT that many people from other regions, in particular, the South, think that Liverpool really does span the Mersey much as London spans the Thames.

My wife was watching an antiques programme last year, from The wirral. In this, the car was driving along Harrison Drive seafront towards Wallasey Village, and the driver was saying, 'here we are in Liverpool, about to visit an antique shop in New Brighton'. Then, miraculously, the car must have done a U Turn and was driving along Seabank Road!!

If these idiot researchers cannot get their geography and facts right, try asking the locals!! Its not rocket science.
