Hloylake 'chippies'

Does anyone remember when Hoylake had three fish and chip shops?

I can recall Fletchers and Mrs. Fletcher shovelling coal into the big range.

The whole family seemed to be involved - I remember Mr. and Mrs.F. and

Ann their daughter in law.  We always asked  for fish bits and the chips came

in small paper bags ( nothing like the amount served now! but we were a lot

healthier)

There  was also a shop in the Grove it might have been Ferris's?  And we still

have the Dolphin in Shaw Street which used to be Whitely's.  My Dad used to

clean out the ovens there and he did the same at Brosters bakery round the

corner.  My Mother remembers Whitely#'s as Mrs. Faulkners when she was a

little girl, there was a bench ouitside and the children would sit outside with

a penn'orth of chips.
