Quarry in Tranmere

My family's house was on the top and edge of the quarry, and we used the air raid shelter tunnels burrowed in to the sandstone hill at the base of the quarry. My cousin rewired the whole thing in the early 1960s when it was refurbished as a nuclear shelter. He said it was fit to live in at that point as a self contained unit. It would be a wonderful tourist attraction both of the history of Tranmere and the quarrying and  as a WW2 shelter and hospital. I have just visited the Cable and Wireless museum built inside the cliffs where the transatlantic cables start in Porthcurno and it was absolutely fascinating. Maybe after the recession.....
