There was indeed an RAF camp nearby during WW2. My uncle, who lived at China Farm, and who was a builder, did a lot of work there. From Upton Village, head downhill to Greasby and at a roundabout, turn right onto Pump Lane. It was on one side of Pump Lane (can't remember which) headed towards Saughall Massie village.
I was born on the army camp in 1948 when it had become a scatters camp . My father and mother lived there till about 1951 then moved onto the North End of Birkenhead.
The. US air force had a camp at the rear end I have no idea what they did but my dad knew some of the men stationed there I think he smoked US cigarettes.
Today there is still some of the slabs the tin huts stood on.
The police man in the close by station used to stand guard and helped the women round the locked gate so they could walk to the village to use there ration cards for food.
