My dad was a life guard there in his younger years.... sadly the baths were built on and now new houses sit on the old site.
I recall going as a child 1970 and going down a small slide in the big pool and my dad said he would catch me ... but he didn't, I soon learnt to swim !!!
I remember the Diving boards too. i do have some old photos but not scanned in.... fab place.
i am 57 ,,,, and the new ferry baths was a big part of my life when i was a kid. i remember having to queue to get in on a sunny day,, remember the cafe ,, how ice cold the water was ,(til you got used to it),,, and the diving boards that seemed, to a kid, to be a hundred feet high, the lockers where you left your clothes in a basket,,your 'tally', that you put round your wrist or ankle. a magical place.
I loved going to new Ferry baths.I was about 14 the first time I swam properly (with my feet off the bottom) and I was really chuffed with myself.Unfortunately,I broke my wrist that same afternoon and spent the rest of the Summer holidays in plaster!
