Hi, I found an old bottle today which was washed up on formby beach, The bottle has a stone srew-in stopper type top and the words Moorhouse Bros. Birkenhead written on the bottle. Anybody know anything about this company?
The Moorehouse Bros were once an indepednant company which manufactured mineral water. The Birkenhead Brewery Co Lotd bought the company out in 1948 and amalgamated it into their business. Moorhouse Bros Ltd had a bottling plant off Cleveland Street in Taylor Street. This closed a number of years ago but the building is still there and is now used for the exhibition and storage of local and other interesting transport artefacts.
Must have kept the name going because I remember it from the fifties. Used to collect the bottles on New Brighton beach to get the deposit. Two or three pence?
