Forums and Facebooks

I was going through quite an extensive list in my Favourites of forums I belong to and its dismaying to find that quite a few have folded through lack of posts, interest and to a degree, spammers. The reason given was that the members were now on Facebook, Twits etc and not visiting or posting on the forum. The latest to fold was one attached to a Wirral newspaper I still read, but they said it had 'gone dead'.

In my own forum, a private ex Regimental forum, There has been a dramatic decline in the usage except by 10-20 stalwarts. Out of a membership if over 750, only these now post. Where are all the others? In Facebook and Twitter etc; thats where.

The software used by Facebook is decidely dodgy to say the least, I went in there to find someone and did stay, but mainly for local groups concerning Wirral. FB loses posts, images regularly, and consistently refuses to allow some to post at irregular intervals.

The place is overloaded with old pics of places around the north wirral, evey minute another appears but sadly not here. Old wirral is mentioned often enough by local historians like Paul 'Wirral' and Tony Franks-Buckley b ut not by the general public in there. Many of them have never even heard of forums etc, they think FB is the only thing online!! Sad isn't it?

What is the answer? I do not think there really is one. Because Facebook etc have instilled a niche in peoples minds, there is nothing else. As I said, many people thinks that is the WHOLE internet, if its not in FB, it does not exist. disbelief

I suspect many will panic and seek help if FB ever closed down, which is possible considering the impending law suits.
